****UPDATE****The link has apparently been taking people all over the place - not to the definition of Barrett's esophagus. Here is a new link: Barrett's Esophagus
I got the final word yesterday. It's not good news, but not necessarily bad news either. I have Barrett's espohagus, which was caused from my chronic reflux. I haven't actually gotten to speak with my doctor; he has been on vacation. I have an appointment on September 23.
I will have to take more medication to keep the reflux under control, but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about the Barrett's. I will have to have annual upper endoscopys to make sure no dysplasia has formed.
I debated on whether or not to even post this on my blog, because I don't want anyone to worry. Hopefully with the proper care and annual testing, nothing will come of this! Please keep me in your prayers.
Love you all!

You are right to post it because we would worry anyway. I pray that nothing more comes of it and that your appointment on the 23rd goes smoothly.
I'm glad you let us know! I'm sure the doctors will take good care of you... :-)
Hey Heather,
I haven't been checking blogs lately since I've been studying but for some reason today I decided to read up on my friend's blogs. Talk about God-timing!
This is good news. I know it may not feel like it, but luckily they caught it early enough to start treatment for the reflux. Barrett's is a sign of metaplasia --which means that the tissue from your esophagus started changing to stomach cells so that it would "protect" itself. Yes - there is an increase risk of it becoming dyplastic (turning into something more serious) - BUT with metaplasia - this is still very treatable.
Of course I am FAR from being a doctor, so your visit to your doctor should ease your mind. Just take the medications regularly, listen to what they say about diet and lifestyle changes (small frequent meals, limit caffeine/sodas/acidic drinks/alcohol, smoking, don't lay down after a meal, etc...)
You are always in my prayers. Stay positive and feel good that you are getting treatment.
Hey...I had planned on calling yesterday, but I have NO VOICE! I guess I am all talked out!
I am glad they finally diagnosed you. Now that they know, they can prevent the any future issues by doing regular check-ups!
I will keep praying!
You are definitely in my prayers, girl! I hate to hear this (even though that link only took me to information about barrettes for the hair) but I'll look it up.
Just looked it up. Hopefully the medication can keep it under control. Sounds painful, girl!!
Thanks for sharing with us. I'll be praying harder as the date nears!
I am glad you got some answers finally. Praying that you are able to get some relief with the meds and that your next appointment goes well. BTW--Parker looked adorable for his first day of school.
